Setting the tone with a cerebral, industrial synth before expanding into a more playful contemporary soul meets R&B-pop hybrid energy, Fake Whiz opens My Heart Is on Fire with atmospheric vocals and the situational lyrics, “The night is so young, let’s dance under the moonlight, it’s the right time to set free our mind… close your eyes, don’t lock yourself inside, when I see you there’s something that I can’t hide…”
The opus expands with depth, intrigue and dimensionality, as Fake Whiz shares his soul, authenticity and poetic prowess. Speaking on the message of the release, the New Yorker confesses, “My Heart Is on Fire is about meeting a person and falling in love at the first sight like you’ve known the person for centuries. The night mood of the song also insinuates surrealistic fantasies of vampires and everlasting life.”
We love how the song develops, and the journey that Fake Whiz takes us on with his imagination. We learn that the song was written twelves years ago, and that Fake Whiz couldn’t make the production meet his artistic vision until this year, when everything suddenly fell into place and the final product was made in just a few days.
Speaking on his personal life and creative process, he says, “Everything is slow with me. It took me years to accept myself as a homosexual just like it took me years to polish my songs.” The star cites influences including Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Quincy Jones, and Motown Artists, although it is clear that Fake Whiz is creating a sonic universe of his own.
We love what Fake Whiz is creating and have added the evocative My Heart Is on Fire to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Fake Whiz‘s wider discography including Lost in Deep, and I’m About to Crack.
