Last year, we had the honour of reviewing Lupe Dragon‘s bold and refined single, I Know What You Did, so when we heard that the talented star had just released Unsaid, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Immersing us with strummed guitar, percussive details and vocal add libs, Lupe Dragon opens Unsaid with the evocative prose, “I don’t even know what you come around for, I’ve been drinking all this alcohol, thinking it will fix my problems for sure, but the next morning I remember it all… “
We are immediately enamoured by the trap-adjacent beat and how charismatic Lupe Dragon‘s delivery is, full of charm and pizazz. We learn that the single is inspired by the HBO Max show Euphoria, which makes sense in relation to the themes of the lyrics.
Having suffered from writer’s block, the show inspired Lupe Dragon to write Unsaid. The star confesses, ““I was just watching Euphoria and the end of season 1 really inspired me to write again.”
Produced alongside Matt Pelosi from The Vault Studio in Boonton, New Jersey, Lupe tells us, “I said to Matt in the studio, let’s make this as simple as can be, that’s all this song needs”, and we concur that the mastered minimalist elegance of the track speaks volumes, whilst being cohesively fused with the profound message of the prose.
We have added Unsaid to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Lupe Dragon‘s wider discography including I Know What You Did, Your Charming Head, and Distance.
