Last year, we had the honour of featuring Noel Johnson (NDJ) for his powerful and profound single, Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride, and the authentic and thought-provoking, So Serious, so when we heard that the star had just released, Get It Wrong, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back.
With textured percussion and an immersive energy, NDJ opens Get It Wrong with atmospheric vocals and a syncopated vibe. The opus expands with meaningful and metaphorical prose as the talented artist shares his soul in an evocative and transcendental manner.
We are drawn in my the unique melodies which are designed intricately by our protagonist, who also has a talent for creating hooks that remain firmly in our psyche.
The instrumental half of the composition holds a meditative energy, which is explained by NDJ’s spiritual nature as a conscious artist. The finale is enhanced by a bold and elegant synth melody, which makes for a captivating outro, inspiring us to reach for the replay button.
Speaking on the depth of Get It Wrong, NDJ confesses, “This is the next single off of the upcoming release, Electrotherapy, a psychedelic journey born of the lockdowns and general insanity of the last couple of years.”
He tells us, “Get It Wrong is a sweet and melancholy reflection on the meaning of real relationships and family in the face of struggle and self-doubt. It’s the first song I’ve ever created entirely with synthesizer and drum machine. The gentle, rhythmic vocal floats on top of the musical dreamscape, presenting an abstract lyrical vision of the precious refuge of companionship. Even more meaningful in times of confusion.”
We love the profound nature of Noel Johnson (NDJ)‘s artistry, and have added Get It Wrong to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, and anticipate the upcoming album, Electrotherapy!
