Drawing us in with a meditative, panning synths and cerebral frequencies, Domax opens Bollé with intrigue and dimensionality, with nuanced sound design that immediately has us feeling astral.
The opus expands with a textured, pulsing beat and glistening bells to envelope us as we are taken on a transcendental journey with the composition. We appreciate the depth of the sound design and how much intricacy there is within the piece.
Bollé has a unique and warm vibe, and also features trippy and subversive elements which remind us of a psychedelics trip, truly mimicking the sounds of the universe.
We learn that Domax is the brainchild of artist, multi instrumentalist and producer Max O’Donnell, who is based in London. He is joined by Andrew Kremer on co-production and mixing, along with drummer Dan See. As a session musician Domax has worked with Sister Sledge, Incognito, and Emile Sandé to name a few!
The composition of Bollé is designed to generate “a sensory journey of great primacy”, with “synthesizers in prominence and profusion in favour of futuristic and dancing layers”. The talented creator cites Kraftwerk, Apex Twin, Squarepusher, Neu, The Yellow Magic Orchestra, and Cocteau Twins, as some of his influences, although there is no doubt that Domax is creating a universe of his own.
We are in awe of the ten minute “jam session”, which was recorded in one night with Domax‘s Monopoly Synth and live drums, and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Domax‘s wider discography, and plan to review his EP, New Moon, on the incoming new moon!
