Last year, we had the honour of featuring Yana for her existential yet inspiring single, Funeral of Life, so when we heard that she had just released The Traveller, featuring Maurice Culligan, we couldn’t wait to experience it, and feed back!
Drawing us in with intricate and elegant piano performance, Yana and Maurice open the opus with profound lyricism as they sing in unison, “Body maybe gone, the spirit remains, body maybe stuck, the mind travels…”
The composition expands with poetic prowess and lyrical depth, as Yana shares her experience with metaphorical constructs designed to help us deeper understand, not only the artist, but ourselves.
Speaking on the release of The Traveller, Yana confesses, “This is deeply personal track I left a piece of my heart in. I wrote the lyrics in August 2018 at Folk Holidays festival in Namest nad Oslavou, Czech Republic, just as Interference returned to play the festival and tour the country after eleven long years.” The visionary artist adds, “The song is an homage to the late Fergus O’Farrell, frontman of Interference, a friend and hero.”
We always find a sense of catharsis in the compositions and lyricism of Yana. The prose, “You’re the lonesome traveler who has seen it all, melodies have taken you to distant lands. Friendships that you made
will last forever, they keep you alive, music and love will light your way…” is particularly touching, and resonates deeply upon listening.
We learn that Maurice Culligan performs vocals, piano, and Hammond organ, whilst Yana shares her exquisite voice. The piece is engineered, mixed and mastered by Antimo Kelly Puca at AP Studios, Dublin, with the photo and artwork by Alan Tobin.
The Traveller has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Yana‘s wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the profound and talented artist.
