Rising artist, Scary Luke opens Freaky Forever with a playful and cerebral energy fusing elements of hyperpop and drill, as we are immersed into a synthetic hybrid universe, full of nuance and intricate sonic design.
We love the out of this world vibe, as a cute video game inspired voice invites us to “level up”, before we experience Scary Luke‘s empowering vocals in the All My Friends Are Peng, which is naturally an ode to the beautiful people that the London creative surrounds himself with. We deeply appreciate how cohesive the songs are together, creating a unique and dimensional tapestry of sound.
Speaking on the releases, Scary Luke confesses, “Freaky Forever and All My Friends Are Peng are psycho gamer anthems in the key of grime. Icy synths glide through glitched kicks and twisted vocals.”
He invites us to “turn this all the way up and jump around really fast. It doesn’t matter where you are. You have my permission, tell them Scary Luke sent you.”
Elaborating on his intention, Scary Luke says, “I wanted to make something fun and high energy to give out and get the people going. What came out of that is an amalgamation and celebration of the happiness that can be found in underground London culture. It’s a mash up of forms of electronic music that I love, definitely gamer vibes going on also. The repetition in the vocal is basically a mantra. It’s okay to be weird in a good way, let’s jump in a circle of weirdness and bounce around type of energy. I listened on loop for about 36 hours straight and then decided I wanted to rap on it like a grimey computer program.”
He adds with charisma and self-awareness, “I can’t really sing I just pretend to be Jonathan Davies in the mirror sometimes. The main thing is I wanted to remind my friends that they’re all Peng. t’s important to be as Peng as possible, in and out.”
We love the universe that Scary Luke is creating with his unique and authentic sound, and have added both Freaky Forever and All My Friends Are Peng to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his previous singles, The Big Smoke, and Scary Lucy.
