Trevour Amunga teams up with Roy Audio and Blake Anthony on profound ode to the resilience of Lionel Messi with new single, 09 MESSI

Last year, we had the honour of featuring the the talented Trevour Amunga for his emotional and cerebral EP, Vespa, and his powerful and personal ode to music, Sweet Touch, so when we learned that he had just released 09 MESSI, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!

Drawing us in with a psychedelic riser and a textured beat with atmospheric vocals add libs singing “Give me bass…”, Trevour Amunga opens 09 MESSI with a fierce energy.

We immediately appreciate the detail in the track including, crowd noise, the industrial nuances and Trevour Amunga‘s incredible flow, as well as the presence of his collaborators Roy Audio and Blake Anthony who are featured rappers on the track.

When discussing the message of 09 MESSI, Trevour Amunga tells us, “The song is about getting inspired to just create, create something really dope even when you feel stuck, much like Lionel Messi in 2009. He inspired the title and mood of the song because all I could picture was him dribbling past everyone, creating chances out of nothing.”

We can only imagine that the football legend would be moved by the opus which is dedicated to his resilience, and we hope that he has the chance to experience it!

With reference to his inspirations, Trevour Amunga cites his parents, and shares his story, “I lost my dad in 2020, but he and my mom are the biggest inspirations for me because they grew up in small villages in Kenya, but somehow managed to work hard towards their goals and get their children to America, while strongly impacting their community back home as well. It always lets me know that anything is possible as long as I work hard towards it.”

Speaking more broadly, the rising star adds, “The other thing that inspires me is just life in general. I love poetry, just as much as music and there’s so much poetry in everyday life. I love seeing people interacting, getting food, walking, the little trivial things people do everyday usually inspire me. Music and art in general also heavily inspires me. Art in whatever form, whether that’s music or paintings, or movies, good or bad, expression is my favourite and the most poetical thing about humans.”

We love Trevour Amunga‘s message, depth and soundscape, and have added 09 MESSI to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
