With every listen, we fall deeper in love with the music of S J Denney, we have previously featured his songs All I’ve Ever Known, A Silent Scream, and I Don’t Know If This Changes Things?, so when we heard that he had just released High Flying Birds, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our thoughts.
With rising strings and rippling keys, S J Denney opens the opus with a luscious and transcendental energy, as we are immediately soaring with the intention of the song. Delivering his signature vocal timbre, S J Denney paints a picture laced with metaphors and surrealism as we are transported into the artist’s universe.
We always appreciate S J Denney‘s intricate and expansive soundscape, full of sonic design intricacies, and the panpipes solo is simply out of this world!
Speaking on the inception of the track, the U.K. artist comments, “Elton John has a song called High Flying Bird and Noel Gallagher has a band called High Flying Birds… I’ve always loved the title, and thought it was time another song used it.”
He continues, “One evening, I met up with a friend who was telling me about something they were going through. As soon as I got home, I picked up a guitar and the song was born. During the writing process, I knew the song needed strings, tack piano, panpipes and lap steel guitar. The rest is history…”
We love the detail, and have added S J Denney‘s High Flying Birds to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the talented artist’s wider discography and anticipate future releases from the visionary creator.
