It is no secret that we have been enamoured with the creations of Chucky Trading Co, so when we learnt that a new era for the duo was upon us with the release of Sleepwalking Through History, we could not wait to grab our headphones on and be immersed into their reality.
With rolling drums and an elegant yet bold guitar soundscape, the opus opens with the distinctively visual prose, “Sleepwalking Through History, bored out of my mind, languid and lazy, just passing the time…”
We appreciate the metaphors that the duo share and the incredible vocal timbre of CS Taber. When discussing the story of the song, the duo simply tell us, “This easy going song is a quirky tale of Woodstock lovers many years later.”
As with all Chucky Trading Co releases, the narrative-based story telling is mesmerizing, we are taken back through time to vividly understand their experience. Sleepwalking Through History definitely holds a theatrical folk energy, and the chord changes inspire a sense of nostalgia.
The lyrics, “You had passion, and I had cocaine…” are brilliant, and the awe-inspiring nature of the hook, “You heard the call to change the world” is super meaningful, and allows us to really feel connected with the passionate muse of the song.
The instrumental segments and the strings arrangement from Everett Young are euphoric, thus we have added Sleepwalking Through History to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their wider discography – perfect for a charming night in or an adventurous drive!
