Drawing us in with a dynamic and dimensional soundscape, with glistening melodic tones, Hyde opens Not A Flex with assertive lyricism and intricate flow. We are immediately enthralled by the themes that Hyde covers with his inspiring prose. His delivery is out of this world, full of charisma and charm as he takes us on a subversive yet empowering journey.
The opus expands into a hip-hop hybrid energy, as Hyde and his collaborators, Mahoney $ and SeaJay create a cohesive and cerebral sonic landscape which is unique and showcases a flawless mix.
Speaking on the release, Hyde confesses, “I’ve taken some time off from music to sort out some personal things, but I am back, and this track is my return.” He adds, “I got two incredibly talented artists to join me, we meshed really well together and made something special with this one.”
We learn that Not A Flex is produced with Diamond Style, and mixed by T-Ro! Elaborating on his comeback track, Hyde simply says, “I needed a track to get back into making music. This one just came out. It was never supposed to be as good as it wound up being, but the other artists helped bring the whole thing together.” He continues, “This was just a fun track. I meant it to be a throwaway just to get back into the swing of things, but then it just kept getting better and better.”
Hyde cites Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Mac Miller, and J. Cole as some of his influences, although there is no doubt that the rising star from Omaha is creating a universe of his own.
We love what Hyde is delivering, and have added Not A Flex to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the star, and stream his existing discography including the profound, Heaven’s Rejections.
