Drawing us in with an intricate and elegant piano performance, Raynald Grenier opens Doux Instants, which translates from French as “sweet moments” with exactly that energy, a sense of romanticism and charm.
The opus expands with a masterful performance on the keys, with evolving arpeggios which take us on a journey inward, of self-reflection and relaxation. We are in awe of the composer’s ability to create a serene soundscape which is perfectly cinematic, and could fit easily into a Hollywood blockbuster or equally a West End theatre show.
Mid-way, the opus takes a minor turn, which lends itself to even deeper introspection as we come face to face with a more melancholic energy. We learn that Raynald Grenier is inspired by Andrew Lloyd Weber, John Willimas, and Ennio Morricone, but there is no doubt that the talented composer is creating a universe of his own.
The final chapters of the piece feature a deeper bassline which adds a more dimensional energy to the composition, keeping us hypnotized throughout until the full circle final reprise.
Raynald Grenier has long held the belief that music is “the best antidote for all the ills of this world”, and we are told that the soothing new track is an “attempt at building bridges of understanding between people, connecting them through a universal medium.” He confesses, “I like, through my music, to touch the heart and the soul. All my musical creation is guided by this principle and this is what distinguishes me.”
We appreciate the depth and intricacy that Raynald Grenier shares with his work and message, and have added Doux Instants to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whist we continue to explore the wider discography of the talented composer, including Dolci momenti.
