Dax had an epic 2022 with the releases of Dear Alcohol, Searching For A Reason, and Depression, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to see what the incredible, must-disciplinary artist had to share with us this year. When we heard that he just dropped the brand new, PTSD, we simply had to experience it.
Setting the tone with a dramatic and emotive opening vocal, Dax sings, “I was walkin’ home on a Sunday, I was walkin’ home on a Sunday, I was walkin’ home on a Sunday, I was walkin’ home on a Sunday and I’m not lookin’ back, but I’m not looking forward to anything in my life, ’cause it never liked me, I can’t sleep ’cause I don’t know what’s inside me, the devil’s demons haunt and do divide me…”
We can always count on Dax for an evocative concept as he uses his voice for self catharsis as much as he does for entertainment. PTSD is no exception. The wise and profound artist shares his introspective mind through authentic prose as the opus builds with a dimensional bassline as Dax pleads, “I’m just human, I don’t understand You, I know You are very complex…”
Naturally, PTSD comes with an incredible music video which brings to life the wider narrative of the song which sees Dax kill a shooter in a church, albeit too late once most of the congregation have already perished in the machine gun fire.
The theme is very current, and Dax‘s story telling reminds us of Bob Dylan‘s Hurricane, just with a 2023 futuristic rap twist, even though the visual itself is set in a more colonial time. The song goes full circle with the opening prose repeated as the man cannot take credit not association with his actions due to systemic racism.
We learn that the traumatic event depicted was inspired by real life events, on Dax‘s Instagram account, he thanks God for giving him the words and tells us the project “was 20+ years in the making….”
Dax is an icon, there is no denying it. The way he channels the universe through his art is next level, and we are glad he is being recognised for his authenticity by millions all over the world and internet. We have added PTSD to the top of our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Dax‘s wider discography.
