We recently featured Juliet Callahan as she delivered prowess and dimensionality with her single, Ghost Girl, so when we heard that the superstar had also released Spotlight over the holiday season, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Drawing us in with a boundless bassline, a riser and an atmospheric vocal texture crescendo, Juliet Callahan opens Spotlight with a unique energy and the high quality production that we have come to expect from the artist.
“I’m the girl they talk about, I kill the game without a doubt, so if you’re jealous run your mouth, if you’ve got problems work it out…” sings the Los Angeles-based artist assertively, as she cements herself as an icon.
We can always count on Juliet Callahan for evocative themes and a dimensional soundscape, and Spotlight is no exception. We love the way that she delivers her prose, and the charisma that oozes from her spirit as she shares her perspective on the alternative pop meets trap hybrid track.
We learn that the opus is inspired by “Rihanna and Britney Spears’ high energy tracks”, but there is no doubt that what Juliet Callahan is creating is highly authentic to her own artistry.
She confesses, “This track represents another milestone for my career as this is my first release where I played the role of the singer, songwriter, producer, and audio engineer. I decided to switch up the vibe for this track by making a more upbeat, feel good, dance song which veers away from my past releases which reflect on more touchy subjects such as heartbreak and betrayal.”
The rising artist elaborates, “Spotlight is about celebrating who you are with my main goal being to bring out the confidence in oneself/my listeners, whether that confidence is buried beneath negative emotions or has already scratched the surface.”
We are obsessed with the futuristic bass-line which really sets the multi-disciplinary pop star apart from her peers and even her references. She says, “When I started producing the track I made the tempo around 20 bpm higher than usual, a rhythmic trap drum progression, a catchy bassline and a harmonized synth to match my unapologetic tone with lyricism that celebrates self love.”
“Before I began creating the track I made sure to set the intention that this song is for my listeners (and me personally) to embrace their inner “boss” or “bad b*tch” through this track the same way some of my favorite pop artists have taught me to embrace that side of myself. My goal through this track is for my listeners to be feeling themselves”, continues Juliet Callahan with vigour and authenticity.
We have added Spotlight to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Juliet Callahan‘s wider discography including Ghost Girl, Numb and Venom.
