Setting the tone with a luscious and immersive synthscape, Frank Joshua opens What Price A Smile with an enigmatic melody and dimensional textures, as he shares atmospheric vocals and situational prose.
We can always count on Frank Joshua for high-end production and a narrative-based song design to generate an evocative sense of escapism, and What Price A Smile is no different.
After an incredible year with a slew of releases, we learn that the opus is the mysterious rising star’s first single from his upcoming second album Talk Of Things, which is due out in January. He describes the piece as “a dance anthem for the limbs and the heart.”
Lyrically the song touches on themes of “the sadness of miscommunication and the deliberately obtuse”, framed within a cohesive tapestry of sound and expressive lyricism.
Speaking on the meaning of What Price A Smile, Frank tells us, “The song is [about] noticing the difference between people’s rhetoric and their behaviours”, and asks introspectively, “How often to we say what we mean and act accordingly?”
Anecdotally, Frank confesses, “The demo for this tune was taken illegally by the presenters of Chicago based radio show, BAD Waves Radio, about a year ago. They kept playing it without permission and got great reactions so we decided to release it and include it on the forthcoming album.”
We love the universe that Frank Joshua is creating and have added What Price A Smile to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Frank Joshua‘s wider discography including one of our favourites, Loneliest Place In The World!
