Drawing us in with a luscious synthscape and enigmatic vocals layers, Imelda Gabs opens Reckless with intrigue and dimensionality. The visionary artist from Switzerland showcases her epic range and unique soundscape whilst delivering the metaphorical opening prose, “I’ve seen it all fall down, you’ve got the devil’s eyes, there’s no weapon I can hold on to, only you can see me right, ’cause I’ve been running with no purpose, I’ve been losing myself, teardrops loaded but you do not seem to understand why…”
The opus expands into an avant-garde, cinematic, dark-pop sonic landscape, as Imelda Gabs takes us on a subversive trip through her spirit and mind. We deeply appreciate the orchestral influences, and we learn that the song is about “how reckless one can be when in love, the fear of letting go.”
The record also introduces Imelda Gabs‘ upcoming debut album era, and comes with a mixed-medium, out-of-this world, futuristic music with a fitting sci-fi inspired theme which is directed by Dariy Mambetov, and animated by Louis Richard.
We learn that whilst Imelda composed and produced the song herself at her home studio in Lausanne, the music video was shot at White Sands, New Mexico, and our protagonist’s performance is evocative and transcendental, in line with the sonic architecture of the composition.
We have added Reckless to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate Imelda Gabs‘ debut album, and continue to stream her wider discography including Fallen Angel, and Alter Ego.
