Setting the tone with a celestial synth, intricate melodies and compressed vocals, Nicky Champagne opens Lizard Land with intrigue and atmosphere, as the rising artist from Brooklyn takes us on an ethereal trip.
The opus expands into a luscious, lo-fi, retro pop delight and with each listen we transcend a little further! Nicky Champagne confesses that Lizard Land was inspired by a lecture that he heard from Terrance McKenna, the American ethnobotanist and mystic who advocated the responsible use of naturally occurring psychedelic plants.
This makes sense once we dig deeper into the poetic prowess and conscious depth of the song. Lizard Land was also recorded on tape, which lends itself to that nostalgic feel, with a sense of timelessness, but also laced with cosmic futurism. We learn that Nicky Champagne performs guitar, vocals, bass and keys on the immersive and dynamic composition.
We have added Lizard Land to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Nicky Champagne debut and sophomore singles, See U in Space and Come Get Ur Mans, respectively!
