Setting the tone with strummed acoustic guitar and atmospheric vocals, .foster opens Untitled with emotive and metaphorical lyricism as he sings, “If I had a dollar for every time, someone that I love died, I’d have exactly five…”
The opus expands into a meaningful and situational narrative with introspective depth as .foster shares his mind, spirit and vulnerability with us. Elaborating on his prose, the rising artist from Nashville confesses, “I grew up in the church went to seminary, and led worship for years. I finally left religion a few years ago and wrote this song about the hypocrisy of the church, and how much hurt I had seen…”
We deeply appreciate the soundscape and the energy that .foster delivers, and his vocal range is luscious. His authenticity is tangible throughout the song as it builds with layered vocals and a more ethereal edge.
.foster sings in a self-realized manner, “I used to sing about God’s grace, but now I mostly curse his name, if old me met me know, he’d try to convert me…”, and goes onto tell us how he was chastised for speaking up about racism and that if heaven was full of people like that, he would rather be in hell.
With reference to the ethos of his debut, .foster cites “death” as the inspiration. He tells us, “I wrote this song after getting out of a close friends funeral, but its not just about death of friend but of faith, and the fear of walking away from the comfort of knowing…
The rising star cites Bruce springsteen, Elliott Smith, Bob Dylan, and Corey Killgannon as some of his musical influences, although it is clear that .foster is creating a universe of his own. We have added Untitled to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from .foster!
