We recently featured Joyce Tratnyek for her profound and cathartic single, Listening Listening, so when we heard that the talented star had just released The Cold Will Last Forever, we couldn’t wait to experience it.
Establishing the mood with a bold and immersive bassline with nuanced, melodic synth detailing, Joyce Tratnyek opens The Cold Will Last Forever with atmospheric vocals as she takes us on a cerebral journey with her prose.
The composition expands into a dark wave meets alternative rock energy as the 19-year-old ambient indie rock musician from Portland, Oregon delivers the “most brutally honest song” that she has ever released.
We appreciate the authenticity and depth that Joyce Tratnyek shares with the opus, and the rising artist confesses, “The Cold Will Last Forever was inspired by my struggle with major depression and suicidal thoughts.”
Joyce continues, “On December 5th, 2021, I attempted to end my life, and included this song in my suicide note to friends and family. After my attempt failed and I finally began to get treatment for my illness, I swore to release this song as a way of finding closure, and starting to move on with my life. While the memories this song evokes in me are dark, I love it because it brings me catharsis through its dark, gritty guitars, and painfully honest lyrics. I only hope that this song can help other people who have struggled in the same way.”
We learn that Joyce Tratnyek wrote and produced the composition entirely, and that it is the first release where she plays all of the instruments, including drums. Mastering for the single was done by PCHI Audio.
The vulnerability and truth that Joyce Tratnyek shares with her artistry is tangible, and we have added The Cold Will Last Forever to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her wider discography including Do You Think of Me?, and Just Goodnight.
