Immersing us with an intricate, avant-garde soundscape with keys and subversive, panning synths, Najman opens Cry Blue with the dark, situational lyrics, “Lock the windows, I think this is all true, I didn’t know that I was able to choke someone…”
The opus expands into a meaningful and introspective composition as Najman recounts “an S&M sex story gone wrong”, and the related cathartic experience as the Zurich-based artist shares his soul though emotional prose, subsequently “crying a sea full of tears.”
The rising artist elaborates, “There is a lot of pain behind this track. I wrote this one to express my anger and loneliness.” Additional intentions to Najman‘s creation include catharsis, which we can understand from the traumatic experience, and a question to the audience asking if “we recognise ourselves in these stories?”
We learn that for his debut, Najman worked with Jan Wagner (an artist from Berlin, who has worked with Rosa Anschütz, BPitch Berlin) and Enyang Urbiks (who has mastered songs for Arca). We also learn that Najman‘s debut EP, Blackmailing is set to follow in early 2023.
We appreciate the depth and authenticity that Najman shares with Cry Blue, and have added the emotive composition, laced with self-realized poetic prowess to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the star.
