Setting the tone with rolling drums expanding into a luscious soundscape with elements of electric and acoustic guitar, Lord Sonny the Unifier opens Howl with wild riffs, gruff vocals and situational yet assertive lyricism.
The opus evolves into a powerful and evocative post-punk energy with elements of self-described “biker psychedelia”, and needless to say, we are obsessed.
Speaking on the creative process of his upcoming album (due out on March 3, 2023), Lord Sonny the Unifier confesses, “This one was realized during lockdown. I was simultaneously building a new home and studio after the last one burnt down and writing the new album and like everyone, my thoughts were racing, battered and howling. The nail gun was pounding and the saws were slicing through steel and wood. The Laney amp was cranked and the vocals were on the edge.”
The rising star continues with depth, “Out of this questioning came more questions, some relief, much introspection and the realization that, among other things, the politricks we’re subjected to are in the best interests of the already affluent. The only power we have over the oppressors is what we create in our lives and the love we share with our people. They don’t have that and we do, and that’s more powerful than anything. In this life, he who sees the most beauty wins. “
Howl is the fierce lead single from the record, and we are hypnotized by the depth and poetic nuance that Lord Sonny the Unifier shares with his subversive message and out of this world guitar solos!
We have added Howl to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate Lord Sonny the Unifier‘s upcoming album, America’s Newest Hitmaker, and stream his existing discography including The Starman and First in Space.
