Setting the tone with strummed acoustic guitar and nature sounds, kid occult opens breakup with delicate vocals and the lyrics, “If you wanna love, we can make love, if you wanna break, we can breakup…”
The opus expands into a luscious and introspective song about “the highs and lows of going through a breakup”. We appreciate the repeated prose, and banjo and guitar hybrid soundscape with textured percussion and cerebral tones.
Speaking on the release of breakup, kid occult confesses, “This track is very genuine, homemade and from the heart.” We learn that the composition was recorded partially in Augusta by Caleb Freitag, and it was also partially recorded in Nashville by Caleb Freitag and Derek Matzinger.
Elaborating on the sonic influence of breakup, kid occult tells us, “This song is mainly inspired by Ho Hey by The Lumineers and Sunset Lover by Petit Biscuit.” The rising star continues, “I wanted to blend the Americana Pop style with the electronic world”. We appreciate his references, but it is clear that kid occult is creating a universe of his own!
We have added breakup to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate further releases from kid occult!
