Setting the tone with immersive keys and vintage vocals, Maria Weissman opens Fragments with depth and vulnerability as she sings, “I can only love in fragments, secret rooms in closets…”
The opus opens with it’s subversive vocal design as Maria bares her soul, but a quarter way though the track, we experience beautiful clean vocals from Maria as she self-harmonizes to bring to life her story in a more dimensional manner as she sings about her emotional history with trauma including the lack of connection with her father.
The sonic style shifts between the two to create a “fragmented” energy, and we love how it brings to life the emotion of the artist. Fragments comes with a glitch heavy music video which marks the third and final instalment in the visionary Maria Weissman‘s three-part music video series. We learn that together they all tell the multifaceted story of “dealing with the aftermath of trauma.”
We appreciate the metaphorical depth and poetic prowess that Maria Weissman shares with her vision, as well as her captivating performance in the music video.
Speaking on the release of Fragments, Maria Weissman confesses, “This is a song I wrote while trying to move forward. It’s about honoring the reality of the ‘bad’ – difficult things that we can’t control – while also being honest about our own behavior and patterns. I’m a pretty visual person, so I really liked sinking into the idea of a beautiful mosaic or kaleidoscope depicting that broken bits can create such beauty.”
We have added Fragments to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst are continue to explore Maria Weissman‘s wider discography, namely her EP, Bad!
