Establishing the mood with rippling drums and textured percussion, before tabla and a sitar come into play to create an immersive experience, Mohamed Assani opens the remastered version of Transit with dimensionality and intrigue.
The opus expands with luscious and intricate instrumentation into a powerful and enigmatic soundscape with a sense of ancient futurism, as the artist delivers a hybrid of electronica and organic Eastern sounds. There are qawwali vocal riffs fused with a more industrial energy which amplifies the sonic experience of the composition.
Some of the percussive riffs and soundscapes are akin to the sound that one might experience when tripping into another realm through meditation or DMT, and we appreciate this nuance.
A third of the way though the track, we experience divergent string detailing in cohesion with the sitar and this once again gives us a sense of enigmatic depth, keeping our ears finely tuned in.
The final section of the opus sees the track take on a more expansive, high octane nature as we reach enlightenment through the vibrant sounds of Mohamed Assani.
Transit comes with a multi-disciplinary video showing an incredible performance from our protagonist, as well as out-of-this-world choreography performed by Karley Gill and Jee Lam. The visual also showcases illustrations by Laz Bones and animation from Vu Maii.
We love the universe that Mohamed Assani is creating and have added Transit to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography including his album, Wayfinder.
