Setting the tone with immersive keys, MNERVA opens Love Song with vulnerability and optimism as he sings, “Don’t know how to write a love song, cos I’m used to getting hurt, oh but ever since I met you, I’ve been searching for the words…”
The opus expands into a profound and meaningful alternative rock meets pop punk energy as MNERVA delivers an authentic message of love. We appreciate the poetic prowess that he shares, as well as the build of the song, and vocal design.
Speaking on the release, the rising artist from Nashville confesses that Love Song “delves into self reflection and discovering feelings and emotions you didn’t realize you were capable of.”
The instrumentation is a trip and we love a message about love. Speaking on the release, MNERVA also knows as Matt Wagner says, “I wrote Love Song last year when I celebrated my one year anniversary with my now ex-girlfriend. I had never hit that milestone with anyone before and I wanted to write a love song as a present to her for sticking by me.”
He continues, “But unfortunately, I quickly realized I had no idea how to write a happy song so I jokingly started singing about how I couldn’t write a love song to save my life. In messing around, I landed on the song’s first couplet, immediately started crying, and then finished the song in an hour. Although I’m not in that relationship anymore, I still love Love Song because it reminds me that cynical, jaded, and insecure people can find somebody who makes them happy as long as they put themselves out there and open up.”
We have added Love Song to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream MNERVA‘s wider discography including Amends and Sorry (Forget About Me).
