Earlier this year, we featured Ollie Twohill’s narrative-driven come up story, Silk Dress, so when we heard that the rising artist had just released his new single, Hollow, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Establishing the mood with textured drums and acoustic guitar, Ollie Twohill opens Hollow with the situational lyrics, “Pacing all around my bedroom, hoping you don’t see me cry, you caught me at worst time, you always do, you know it’s true…”
The opus expands into a meaningful indie-pop energy as Ollie takes us on a journey through his mind, and spirit, sharing his vulnerable side with us. We appreciate the poetic prowess that he delivers and his charismatic prose!
Speaking on the release, Ollie confesses, “Hollow was inspired a relationship breakup, where my partner at the time decided to abruptly end it.”
The Australian star from Murwillumbah, New South Wales adds, “I was completely shocked and blindsided even though it was an amicable parting of ways. Was feeling stunned and rocked at the time. Thinking back on those feelings and the situation, I decided to write a song about it and how I felt at the time. It was a hollow feeling. Guess it is a topic that most people can relate to.”
Ollie Twohill cites varied influences including Story so Far, Neck Deep, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Blink 182, Jet, Avril Lavigne, and John Mayer, which we can feel come through in his work, but it is clear that he is creating a sonic universe of his own.
We learn that Hollow was recorded on the Gold Coast with Ollie’s trusted team, and without giving too much away, the artist tells us that we can expect new singles from him in 2023!
Hollow has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Ollie Twohill‘s wider discography including Neverland, Boots and Tapping Away.
