Setting the tone with a luscious, enigmatic guitar soundscape and intricate drums with percussion details, One and a half Dog open Catch 22 with dimensionality and intrigue.
The opus expands with atmospheric vocals into a progressive rock energy as the five-piece band from Norway take us on a metaphorical and cerebral trip with their thought-provoking lyricism and conscious constructs.
Speaking on the meaning of Catch 22, the band confess, “The song is about a future war on artificial intelligence and the restart of the human race. Kind of a Matrix theme…”
Naturally, we deeply appreciate the themes that One and a half Dog are referencing with their work , and society is truly in need of their prophetic artistry and existential depth.
We learn that One and a half Dog was formed in 2017 as a hobby-project with the goal of writing and recording songs for a vinyl LP for the members of the band to enjoy when retired. The tell us, “We had originally no plans for gigging or promoting our music, the whole band-project was purely meant for our own satisfaction.”
“However, when releasing our two first songs, we discovered an interest out there… Some people, besides from ourselves, seemed to like what we were doing”, the band continue, hence their expansion and evolution!
They have received comparisons to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Tool among others, although it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own!
We have added the immersive and intelligent new single, Catch 22, to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream One and a half Dog‘s wider discography including Fire in the Hole and Shine.
