Setting the tone with an immersive synth melody, textured add libs, and psychedelic detailing, 888moment opens death again with intrigue, dimensionality and atmospheric vocals as he delivers the introspective prose, “And I feel like death, I don’t know why I’m so stressed, every time I pick my fucking phone up, I’m depressed again…”
The opus expands into a thought-provoking journey though 888moment‘s mind and vulnerability, and we appreciate the artist for this depth and authenticity. Speaking on the release, the rising artist from close to Baltimore confesses, “[death again] is about continuing on when times get hard. Death doesn’t have to be physical and can be the death of a toxic mindset.”
We learn that the existential death again is the first single from 888moment‘s first self produced album Kill Your Ego! releasing on the aligned date of November 11. He tells us that the song is “an attempt to mix indie bedroom pop with hip hop”, and describes the release “as though a SoundCloud rapper released a song in the 1980s.”
888moment cites Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Drake, The Neighbourhood, The Weekend, and Lil Uzi Vert as some of his influences, which we can feel come through in his art, although there is no doubt that what 888moment is creating is highly unique.
We are here for the depth that 888moment shares with his artistry, and have added death again to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography including Skinnn (FineFineFine) and await the release of Kill Your Ego!.
