It has been an incredible year professionally for Wotts, with the releases of Domino, LEMONADE, 6 Shooter and NO TAKE BACKS, so when we heard that they were releasing, SOMETHING, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Drawing us in with immersive and dimensional keys and shooting drums, Wotts opens SOMETHING with the poetic prowess that we have come to love from the band, as the deliver their signature vocal styling and an introspective message.
The composition evolves with charisma and nuance into a dynamic and glistening indie-pop soundscape, which has us mesmerized. We always appreciate how the Canadian duo have something intimate and refined to share with us, and SOMETHING is no exception!
SOMETHING is quintessentially pop but also has a genre expansive energy fusing rock and electronic. According to bassist and guitarist Ricky 100, “Indie Pop is our goal, but I think we’re having a lot of fun with exploring new sounds and really trying to build an atmosphere with our music.”
We learn that the opus, which is produced by Jayem (Wotts‘ vocalist and multi-instrumentalist), is about “being in limbo while waiting for someone to decide if they want to keep you in their life.” This is a hugely relatable story and no doubt will connect Wotts‘ message with legions of fans.
He explains, “We wanted to capture that feeling of desperation when you know someone has a hold on you. Gripping your phone close to you, just hoping to hear from them, taking any small thing they do as a sign.”
We appreciate the depth, vulnerability and wisdom that Wotts create with, and have added SOMETHING to our New Music Spotlight playlist whilst we continue to stream Domino, LEMONADE, 6 Shooter and NO TAKE BACKS!
