Setting the tone with an immersive synthscape and pop sensibilities, Anaté open After with the situational and assertive lyrics, “Ashes on the floor, love is away, come get it all, I’ve told you before, leave it alone, why you asking for more?”
The opus expands into a thought-provoking and introspective journey as the duo share depth, poetic prowess and charisma whilst the chorus fo After explodes in to a super catchy, dimensional energy, that has us hypnotized.
After is the pair’s first single from their second EP, Fume. Anaté is comprised of singer-songwriter Ana and producer Andrea. Speaking on their creative process, they confess, “We wrote it with a more laid back approach to the contemplating lyrics of the first album Confessions, moving also towards mainstream pop sounds – which will characterise the entire EP.”
Elaborating on the literal message of the song, the duo tell us that “After talks about recurring mistakes and the guilty pleasures we get out of them”. We appreciate the message that Anaté are sharing with their lyricism, and the relatable subject matter.
Anaté was formed in 2019 when Andrea was searching for a vocalist to work with for a trip-hop project. A friend suggested Ana, who ended up sending Andrea “an awesome melody and perfect lyrics”. Meeting for the first time in Brussels merely weeks later, the pair decided their musical chemistry was undeniable and continued to collaborate together. They have since worked on over twenty tracks together!
Ana lives in Berlin, and is trained in classical piano. Andrea is based out of Milan, and in addition to producing, has a background playing guitar in various bands for over a decade.
Anaté’s influences encompass a broad range of genres and artists, including brit-pop, trip-hop, Pink Floyd, Lenny Kravitz, Massive Attack, and Sade, although there is no doubt that they are creating a universe of their own! We have added After to our New Music Spotlight playlist whilst we continue to stream the pair’s wider discography including Blue Jeans, and 911!
