Setting the tone with an immersive, cosmic texture, Major Kami open their cover of David Bowie‘s iconic song, A Better Future with atmospheric vocals and the unforgettable opening prose, “Please don’t tear this world asunder, please take back this fear we’re under, I demand a better future…”
The opus expands with intricate percussion into a luscious, avant-garde energy with psychedelic detailing, progressive soundscaping and sonic design to create a visionary and cerebral tapestry, bringing to life Bowie’s message for a new generation.
Speaking on the release, Major Kami tell us, “Our David Bowie cover breaks the codes of the originally conceived rock song to move into a relaxed and challenging electro-pop world.”
The enigmatic outfit continues with depth, “The ghostly chorus voices (our past), the robotic voice in the middle of the song (our future), make us realise that our time is taking a turn we’ve never known before; but Major Kami’s voice seeks to soothe us.”
We learn that A Better Future is part of an 11-track album dedicated to David Bowie, although only two songs are covers, the rest are original compositions. Major Kami confess, “The lyrics deal with the history of the superstar but leave a lot of room for our imagination, among other things, to envisage a better future.”
We appreciate the authenticity that Major Kami share with their artistry, and who isn’t a fan of David Bowie’s message? So we are glad that Major Kami are bringing it back for a new wave of listeners. A Better Future has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate further releases from the project!
