Setting the tone with an almost ASMR-style count in, Mary Ella Hunt opens Changed with acoustic guitar and atmospheric vocals as she sings, “I’ve got something to say, please just let me make my case, I wish that I could cry but I can’t seem to find the way…”
The opus expands into a luscious and meaningful, introspective prose as Mary Ella Hunt delivers celestial tones and poetic prowess to bring her story to life.
Laced with conviction, Mary Ella Hunt confesses, “Changed means so many more things to me now than it did when I first wrote it. The version of me that wrote this song was in a space of numbing, of needing to speak my emotions but not wanting to fully feel them.”
She expands on her creative process, “Lyrics came in the middle of the night as they often do, and I think the witching hour gave me the courage to face myself and the heartbreak that I was experiencing. I hope this track will do the same for others.”
We can imagine that fans of Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey will be able to connect with Mary Ella Hunt, although there is no doubt that she is creating a sound of her own.
We appreciate the depth that the resident of Nashville with a Bachelor of Arts in Songwriting shares with her voice and artistry, and have added Changed to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her debut single, Need A Minute.
