Establishing the mood with rippling guitar textures, CLOUD open Circles with atmospheric vocals, warmth and metaphorical lyricism. The opus expands with an enigmatic energy as electric guitar immerses us further, taking us on a cerebral trip through space and time.
We love the dimensionality that CLOUD share with the composition, and the juxtaposition between soft rock and a more industrial, psychedelic edge. Vocals are compressed for effect which invites us to tune in on a deeper level to the poetic nuance of the lyricism.
When discussing the concept of the piece, Dan Norman, the bassist from the five-piece band from Brighton tells, “The narrative of this song is an over dramatised portrayal of my own totally indecisive nature. This song is reminder to myself, and other over-thinkers, that the total demolition of reality won’t depend on what you have for breakfast.”
The middle eight is haunting, as CLOUD deliver the lyrics, “Horizons calling for me…”, taking us into a meditative trance before a final and explosive almost nu-metal reprise, before the track comes to an alternative rock conclusion taking us full “circle” with intricate design, as we are reaching for the repeat button.
Speaking on the release, Dan confesses, “A lot of the music that’s inspired me lately stems from film scores, including Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore.” The band also cite Pink Floyd, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets as influences, although there is no doubt that they are creating a soundscape of their own.
Dan continues with depth, “I asked myself what the score of this narrative would sound like and tried to translate the imaginary string section into a psychedelic rock riff.”
We love the depth that CLOUD create with, and their unique perspective on life and consciousness. We have added Circles to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their wider discography including The Fourth Planet and Magic Carpet Escape.
