Setting the tone with a meditative frequency, deep breathing and a melodic bell, Ahren Merz opens Delusional Affection with intrigue and dimensionality.
The opus expands into an avant garde composition with dynamic and immersive sound design. As the melodic bell ascends, we are filled with hope, and as it descends, we are further committed to the journey of exploring our inner psyche and the intention of the composer.
With percussive textures that take us on a cerebral trip, epic strings tug at our heart, generating an emotive and sometimes intense experience with the juxtaposition of catharsis, yet turmoil for both artist and listener.
Eastern wooden bars fused with the rising strings to creates a sense of urgency and climax before we experience a minimalist moment and the final, anthemic reprise.
Based in Zürich, Switzerland Ahren Merz combines the emotional nature of classical music with experimental concepts of sound design and electronica, resulting in a unique sonic experience.
We learn that Delusional Affection is the first single from his upcoming debut EP A Second Before Awakening, which is inspired by an interpretation he wrote of Salvador Dalí’s painting Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening.
Ahren Merz confesses that the composition specifically portrays Dalí’s emotions towards his muse Gala, which involve fear, unconditional love and compulsive feelings.
We appreciate the depth and authenticity that Ahren Merz shares with his artistry, and have added Delusional Affection to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore his existing discography and anticipate his EP!
