Drawing us in with elegant guitar tones, a light textured beat with immersive keys and a luscious synthscape, Monroe Moon open ¡GET UP! with introspection and existentialism, as Bunny sings, “Life is so beautiful, I want to die, maybe I should try…”
As the song expands, we learn that it is a “stream of consciousness on pain and loss, threaded with self deprecating humor from the perspective of both the one feeling despair and one speaking to a dear one who is in its depths.”
We appreciate the authenticity and vulnerability that Bunny is sharing, as she sings “they’ve got your mind”, we love her 60s esque add libs and the tangible charisma and self-reflection that she delivers. The psyschedelic synth outro is literally out of the world and we are here for the dimensionality that this brings to the piece.
For this release, the duo cite Stone Roses, Portishead, Chopin, Love y Manuel and Erik Satie as influences, which we feel come through in ¡GET UP!, at the same time as Bunny and Theo cement their own identity and channel the words of the universe.
¡GET UP! was recorded the day of a funeral of a dear one to Bunny and the creative pair tell us that the opus allows her to “absorb and transmute pain from personal experience and observational experience of loved ones.” It is deeply personal and the exact details of inspiration are not for public consumption, but there is no doubt that the piece is cathartic for both artist and listener.
We have added Monroe Moon‘s emotive and profound piece, ¡GET UP!, to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their existing discography.
