Setting the tone with immersive drums and vibrant electric guitar, Hullore opens Arise with intrigue, and atmospheric lyrics as he sings conceptually, “As the crow flies, leading to blackened skies, murder is witnessed, uncover these guilty lies, can’t shut your eyes or look away from the visions in your mind…”
The opus expands into a grunge meets alternative rock hybrid energy, with industrial textures and poetic nuance. We appreciate the lyricism and can imagine that fans of Nirvana would be able to connect with Hullore, although it is clear that he is also creating a universe of his own. He also cites The Jesus Lizard, Slint, PJ Harvey, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains as influences!
Arise is the fourth single from Hullore, also known as artist Lee Gardner, who describes it as “something of a protest song”. He elaborates by confessing that “the lyrics for Arise surround themes of injustice, the chorus asking if we will continue to stand up for our values.”
Lee Gardner is a veteran of the Seattle music scene and finds inspiration from “the heyday of what was once called college radio, alternative and indie rock in the 80s & 90s”, which we can feel come to life with Arise and his wider discography!
We have added Arise to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Seizure, The Siren and Johnny Appleseed!
