Setting the tone with a vibrant, alternative rock soundscape, The Midnight Foxes open Pepper Gate with the situational and conceptual lyrics, “Frenzy in the streets, raise the hue and cry, beating their retreat, how could you stand by…”
The opus expands into a meaningful and dimensional journey, designed to evoke the feeling of “being chased by a mob of medieval townsfolk from the splendour of 13th Century Chester, UK into the deep wilds of Wales.”
We learn that the emotive story is based on Chester folklore of an Alderman’s daughter escaping the town to elope with a poor trades apprentice. We appreciate the high octane energy of the song, and the high concept lyricism. Some highlights are the romantic yet tortured, “Waiting for love, hoping for love, I can’t love you…”, and the narrative-based hook, “Find her with the boy, who stole her away, who stole her away…”
We appreciate The Midnight Foxes‘ unique brand of Space-Indie Rock, and although they started out performing with reference to We Are Scientists, The Strokes and The Mystery Jets, there is absolutely no doubt that The Midnight Foxes are creating a universe of their own.
As well as being super talented musicians, The Midnight Foxes is comprised of two NHS workers (a cardiologist and anesthetist), a medical researcher, an archaeologist and a salesperson! This array of talent is what makes them so special, and we are here for it!
Recorded at Through the Roof Studio in Manchester, we have added Pepper Gate to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we also stream their latest release, Running in the Rain, along with Tell Tale Heart, and Smoke From The Embers.
