Setting the tone with intricate and emotive piano with a touch of drama, Fifi C opens Baby Me with atmospheric vocals, and the introspective, conceptual lyrics, “My eyes give in, but my heart gives out…”
The opus expands into a meaningful, contemporary pop meets soul energy as Fifi C takes us on a journey through her emotions and the human condition, asking the people in her past asking them to “look after the Baby Me.”
Baby Me is a song that shares the captivating story of Fifi C’s childhood, and her desire to go back in time and fix things, a feeling she’s sure many can relate to.
We appreciate the depth and poetic prowess that Fifi C shares. Her vocals are out of this world, and her charismatic delivery is tangible. We learn that Fifi C is a 20-year-old singer and songwriter from South East London. The BRIT School graduate takes inspiration from Hannah Reid, Nina Simone and YEBBA, although it is clear that she is creating a universe of her own.
Fifi C has already performed at South Facing Festival, Croydon Pride and for Apple at their Regent Street store, and there is no doubt that she is well on her way to expanding her artistry and message.
The piano performance is exquisite, and forms a cohesive tapestry with Fifi C‘s dynamic and hypnotising vocal. Baby Me was recorded in Brighton, Homeward studios, which takes after its name, being one of the homeliest studios in Brighton. Working on Baby Me with Fifi C was Pete Smith, who has been involved in the music industry for the past 30 years, having worked with The Boomtown Rats, The Police, Stevie Wonder and Duran Duran to name a few.
Speaking on her medium, Fifi C succinctly confesses, “I find myself not being able to word my words at times, so I communicate through my songs instead, its much easier.”
We love, and are grateful for Fifi C‘s chosen way to share her creativity, and have added Baby Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate further releases from the rising star.
