Setting the tone with a refined and panning synthscape, Blue Work open The End of the Ride with a dimensional riser, atmospheric vocals and poetic prowess. The opus expands into a luscious avant-garde meets dream-pop hybrid energy, and we are immersed.
We appreciate the dynamic nature of the production which contracts and expands, allowing the narrative of the opus to come to light with the intricacies of the sound design and kaleidoscopic electronica.
Active between Paris and London, we learn that Blue Work is the artistic union between interdisciplinary artists Hortensia and Vee. Their lyricism explores themes of struggle and self-realization, and the duo’s story-telling is also strongly inspired by their visual art background, making the project “not only a musical endeavour but rather a holistic form of authentic artistic expression.”
The depth within The End of the Ride is tangible as Hortensia enforces her boundaries with her self-referential and metaphorical prose, creating an empowering energy, complimented by Blue Work’s detuned, gritty arpeggios and post-punk vibes. Originally debuting in 2020, the duo has since built up a loyal audience, amassing over 200k streams on Spotify alone.
We have added The End of the Ride to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to explore Blue Work‘s wider discography including Angel Lies, Pygmalion and Hey Tom.
