Phonix delivers high concept and intricate new single, The Little Things

Setting the tone with a dimensional guitar bassline and intricate percussion, Phonix opens The Little Things with the philosophical and metaphorical lyrics, “And all of the little things add up to more than this single moment, I didn’t ever stop to think that all the apologies were run together luke a river to a dam where the water just stands…”

The opus expands into an indie-pop meets country soundscape, with a charismatic energy, as Phonix Little delivers a playful song about “how sometimes the little things in a relationship can build up into one big insurmountable thing that will not be moved.”

We appreciate the poetic prowess of the piece and the nostalgic soundscape with futuristic elements in the vocal textures. The story of the song is progressive and full of wisdom, and we learn that most of the instruments are performed by the talented Phonix himself.

Elaborating on the creative process of the track, Phonix confesses, “The song in part was recorded in my apartment kitchen, but I had some help on this one. Kent Sluchner and James Cook, who play drums and bass (respectively) for Luke Bryan’s band, played the drums and bass for me on this track. I did all other instruments and vocals. My friend, Phil Campbell, “The Professor”, did the mixing at his home studio, and my other friend, Brandon Allshouse from Steelhouse Recordings, did the mastering at his studio. So it was def a team effort and I think it shows. They all did a great job.”

Phonix cites Dave Matthews Band, David Guetta, Radiohead, Calvin Harris, Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake as influences, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own!

We have added The Little Things to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Phonix‘s debut single, I’m The One.
