Setting the tone with an immersive vinyl frequency, a compressed, enigmatic melody, and intricate rising percussion, e!ena opens bittersweet with intrigue and dimensionality.
The opus expands into a luscious, alternative pop meets soft rock energy, with guitars and lyrics full of brilliant metaphors. Speaking on the release of bittersweet, e!ena says, “This song is a great representation of what it felt like to come to terms with and understand my own sexuality.”
She adds with depth and wisdom, “Moreover, it embodies the stress that accompanies growing up and adjusting to life on your own.”
We appreciate the depth and poetic prowess that e!ena shares with her debut, and how much charisma she delivers her vocals and harmonies with. We learn that bittersweet was recorded in e!ena‘s bedroom, and following the recording and editing of the instrumentals, Seth Sylvester recorded impromptu drums over the track. Mixing, mastering and final production tweaks were done by Seth Marques of thechinablue.
The rising artist cites Clairo, Billie Eilish, and Girl in Red as some of her influences, although it is clear that e!ena is creating a universe of her own.
We have added bittersweet to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we await further releases from e!ena!
