It has been an iconic year for artist Pena Hughes-John, who performs professionally as Lethia’s Natorium, with the releases of Lullaby, Inner Child and Here We Go, so we couldn’t wait to experience her latest release, Sorry No Longer Cuts It.
Immersing us with astral vocals and rippling guitar strums, before expanding into the avant-garde, art rock energy that we can come to love from the rising artist, Lethia’s Natorium opens Sorry No Longer Cuts It with assertive and metaphorical lyricism.
Speaking on the meaning of the opus, Pena confesses, “This single describes the inner thoughts of someone affected by the actions of another person. The song is reflective, with each line painting the scene of feeling belittled and unappreciated.”
We appreciate the vulnerability and depth that Lethia’s Natorium shares with her visionary art, and the emotive hook has us deeply in our feels as the super star sings her soul. Fans of David Bowie and Garbage will definitely be able to connect with Sorry No Longer Cuts It, and it’s the perfect song to feel empowered if you are already deep in your feels. Pena cites Siouxsie and the Banshees, Toyah, Blondie, No Doubt, Skunk Anansie, The Smiths and Poly Styrene as some of her influences, which we can also feel come through in her artistry.
Speaking on the meaning and intention of Sorry No Longer Cuts It, Pena confesses, “[In] September 2021, having experienced the sudden end of a toxic relationship, I sat down and began writing a letter to the other party. The lyrics of the song, were originally (what was supposed to be) the letter, explaining how I felt during the duration of the relationship.”
She continues with passion, “Having done a fair amount of research, I came across something that someone wrote in a forum: Their ups are downs and the squares are always round, which best described the other party’s behaviour. The rest of the words flowed, based on my experienced.”
We appreciate the authenticity that Lethia’s Natorium shares with her artistry. Her songs are powerful, inspiring, cohesive and equally unique. Sorry No Longer Cuts It is perhaps the most emotive of the slew of releases from this year, and we are here for it!
