Setting the tone with intricate and enigmatic textures, including rippling keys, rolling harps and Eastern tones, skholezy opens Monologue with intrigue and dimensionality.
The composition expands into an immersive journey with elements of trip-hop, which the artist describes as “chill, romantic calming vibes on trip along the French Riviera”.
We appreciate the detail of the composition, with poetic nuance in the flow, along with luscious melodies which fuse together cohesively. Originally from Manchester, but now based in The Philippines, skholezy has been making beats for over two decades, although he confesses, “I’ve only started releasing in the last couple of years due to life, setbacks and detours.”
Although he references his work as lo-fi, Monologue is full of detail, which really elevates the energy, giving us a robust and dynamic listening experience.
skholezy cites Erykah Badu, Portishead, Bjork, Goldie, Pharrell, Dre and Alchemist as some of their influences, but the artist is clearly creating a sonic universe of his own.
We have added Monologue to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore skholezy‘s wider discography including Nodus and For You.
