Setting the tone with a bright and elastic energy, Matt the Vessel opens Trust with intrigue, dimensionality and atmospheric vocals as Cherry Morris delivers the assertive lyrics, “Put my cards on the table, do you hear what I’m saying, this time I ain’t playin’…”
The opus expands into an electronic pop meets UK dance vibe with charismatic vocals and emotional depth about personal boundaries and self empowerment. We appreciate the intricacies in the sound design, as well as the nostalgic, yet contemporary style that Matt the Vessel evokes with his songwriting and co-production of Trust.
Speaking on the history of the release, Matt the Vessel confesses, “This song was originally written four years ago, for a producer that fully sold me the normal dream everyone wants to hear. He to then ghosted and in January 2020, I realised if I wanted to [be] a producer I had to get there myself.”
The rising artist from Christchurch continues with passion, “Four years later, I am now full time in music and this song has followed me the whole time, morphing and changing into different versions until I got the opportunity to work and learn under Geoff Swan, [the] mixing engineer to Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Mahalia and Yungblud to name a few).”
“I showed him the original version and he then helped me, by co-producing it to get it to where it is now. With additional help from my good friend Cherry Morris that performed the vocals”, adds Matt the Vessel.
He concludes with wisdom, “When this song was written, I had no clue what to do with it or how to achieve my dream, now, on the other side, I have clear focus, music I am proud of and the tools to bring the dream to life.”
We love the authenticity and intention that Matt the Vessel shares with his artistry, and have added Trust to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the talented producer.
