Setting the tone with atmospheric, glitched vocals and a pulsating beat, Themboy opens Take Me Home with the title of the track, before the composition expands into vibrant energy with the situational lyrics, “I’ve been waiting all night for you, dark hair and sweet perfume, I see you dancing in the club…”
The opus evolves with charisma and intrigue to deliver a polished contemporary pop soundscape, produced with Greg Parys, featuring a narrative which speaks openly about “the very real issues surrounding gender fluidity and dating as a gender non-conforming individual.”
We appreciate the message and intention of Take Me Home, and Themboy‘s artistry as activism as they sing emotively, “So look at me, like you look at her, why can’t you see that I’m no different from her?”
Speaking on their message, Themboy confesses, “I want to normalise the free expression of one’s full gender identity without the need for labels or categories. I want everyone to be able to be 100% themselves without having to explain or justify their inner truth to others.”
The single comes with an epic artwork created with David Oldenburg, featuring Themboy in a red outfit with an exploding motorcycle. A metaphor for their emotions, no less.
Themboy is a half-Cypriot, non-binary pop artist whose mission is to level the playing field in pop music. Expressing their creativity from an early age, and with influences that reach to before they were born, their aesthetic is “bold, queer and unapologetically gorgeous.” We learn that Themboy has also been making their mark in the modelling industry and was the first non-binary model on the cover of Country and Town House, and the first non-binary face of an international Olay campaign.
We love the synth solo, immersive bassline, Eurodance vocals, and the direction that Themboy is taking with their debut, and have added Take Me Home to our New Music Spotlight playlist whilst we anticipate further releases from the rising star!
