RØSES releases immersive and cathartic single, Self Destructive

Setting the tone with cerebral textures and dimensional bass line, before rippling strings and atmospheric vocals immerse us, RØSES opens Self Destructive with the situational lyrics, “Aching, I’m fading, you’re so close to me, eyes blazing, you’re frozen, I’m broken, blind to what we set in motion…”

The opus expands into an ethereal dark pop soundscape with dynamic production, luscious harmonies and poetic prowess. We appreciate RØSES‘ range and vocal timbre, and the innovation in sound design.

The rising artist, who is also known as Iliana Summit, is based in San Francisco, but originally from the UK. She confesses, “Self Destructive is about wanting [and] craving someone so badly in the moment, even though you know it’s not good for either of you – and the whiplash from the feelings that follow.”

Fans of XYLO, Mothica, Ruelle and Daughter will definitely be able to connect with Self Destructive. We learn that the track was produced in LA, recorded in San Francisco, and produced with Brian Squillace of LANNDS.

Lyrical highlights include the relatable and introspective, “I’ll regret it, try to forget it, a f_cked up game of Russian roulette I play in my head…”, and the assertive, “Pleasure in thе pain, a hurricane, you bring me down,
cursing your name whilе I take the blame, you’re nowhere to be found…”

We love the authenticity that RØSES shares and there is no doubt that with this self-aware release, she is providing catharsis for both herself and the listener. We have added Self Destructive to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream RØSES‘ wider discography including Creatures and My Love.
