Setting the tone with an enigmatic, dimensional riser, and exploding into a heavy metal guitar soundscape with bold drums, before briefly dying down, Vie Jester open Make You Better with atmospheric vocals and the conceptual lyrics, “I’ve realised it takes, spirit calling candles, burned long enough to make you better…”
The opus expands into a hard rock meets melodic metal energy with a powerful message about “trying hard to conjure external forces to help you manifest, only to realize it’s all internal anyway, and you don’t need to rely on the external.”
We appreciate the conscious vibes that Vie Jester share with their artistry. The trio, who have been together since grade school, consists of Kyle Guerrero on vocals and guitar, Matthew Denis on bass and Cliff Conway on drums and vocals. They have played many shows throughout the Southern California area in the last decade, and have gained a growing local following.
The band cite Tool, Deftones, Tesseract and A Perfect Circle as some of their influences, although it is clear that Vie Jester are creating a conscious universe of their own.
Their EP, Vex, was recorded and mixed by Matthew Denis at Skylit Sound Studios in Gardena, California, who is also the bassist for popular modern rock singer Diamante.
We have added Make You Better to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream Vie Jester‘s EP, Vex in full, which includes Sex and Candy, Would? and Sunburn and Moonshine.
