We recently featured Doni-B for his impactful and universal debut, On Rode (1of1), so we were excited to hear that the conscious artist had just released a brand new single, Round-table Talk, as part of his new album.
Setting the tone with immersive and panning synth textures, Doni-B opens Round-table Talk with dimensionality and an invitation, as he says, “Alright, alright, come gather round, I think it’s time for a toast…”
With an intricate, left-field percussive backdrop and crowd noise, Doni-B comments, “There are two types of people in this world, the ones that face the music and the ones that take covers…”, before the opus expands into a futuristic Hip-Hop energy, whilst our protagonist delivers impactful verses true to his profound delivery style and smart lyricism.
Speaking on the meaning of the opus, Doni-B comments succinctly, “Sometimes you need to take time and sit with your team to talk business [and] future plans.”
Round-table Talk is taken from Doni-B‘s new album, Da Starvin Artizt, which also features On Rode (1of1). He speaks frankly to us on his expansion, and says, “At first, I hated my voice. I thought the deepness of my voice wouldn’t translate well with recording”, however it is clear from the record in its entirety, that Doni-B has a lot to offer.
Elaborating on the ethos of the record as a whole and his ambitions, Doni-B confirms that his sonic universe is inspired by his culture, “I’m very proud to be where I’m from, [and] how much that’s influenced me. I know I’m classified as Hip-Hop/Rap, but the goal and plan is to expand, and dipping into dancehall is the first of many steps in building my skillset as an all around artist.”
We appreciate what Doni-B is serving up, along with the depth, intelligence and authenticity that comes with his sound. We have added Round-table Talk to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his album, Da Starvin Artizt in full!
