Setting the tone with decadent, immersive guitars, The Cookie Jar Complot open Cookies with intrigue and dimensionality, before crescendoing drums bring us into a state of clarity with vibrant electric guitar melodies.
Expanding into a luscious and dynamic math rock meets post-punk energy, Cookies is a cinematic opus which features intricacy in production and instrumental performance.
We are obsessed with the layered guitars and how versatile the opus is. Additional percussion details in the form of bells tease us further before an anthemic finale featuring trumpets before a stripped back breakdown.
If you loved Cookies, then be sure to check out the band’s self titled track, The Cookie Jar Complot which is dubbed their “eponymous hymn”. Kicking off with a more industrial guitar energy, giving us alternative rock vibes fused with a playful electric riff before it fizzles out to take us on a vibrant adventure with rolling drums and an unforgettable melody.
Designed to give us the vibe of driving a sports car at night the band tell us that The Cookie Jar Complot features “mischievous guitars [which] steer you right past the fast paced bits of life and leave you to revel in a sweet bossa nova goodness for just a little while, before pulling you back into a whirlwind reality of rude yet charming riffage.” They tell us that “this is a turbulent journey you won’t forget”, and we have to agree.
We deeply appreciate the soundscapes of both songs, cohesively together and as separate entities and can imagine The Cookie Jar Complot securing epic synch deals with their innovative and dimensional sound.
Based in Luxembourg and composed of the songwriting duo Sven Schmeler and Gilles Glesener, The Cookie Jar Complot has been active since 2020 and has released their first EP Caviar Capital in 2021.
Both Gilles and Sven have played and written for multiple Luxembourg-based music acts in the past. Teaming up for The Cookie Jar Complot, their aim was to create compelling instrumental music that you can dance to. For live performances, Sven and Gilles have enlisted Philipp Colling on bass and Miko Buraczyk on guitar.
Both songs have been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore The Cookie Jar Complot‘s wider discography including NEO!
