Setting the tone with elegantly strummed acoustic guitar and string harmonies, Jackson Watson opens Feels Like Yesterday with the situational lyrics, “I was walking around that scenic park, right before it all got too dark, thinking over all our stupid plans, and how to force this romance…”
The opus expands into an acoustic pop energy as Jackson Watson questions, “I don’t know, how we’re gonna make it work…”. We appreciate the depth that Jackson Watson channels on Feels Like Yesterday, along with his poetic prowess.
Speaking on the meaning of the song, Jackson confesses, “Feels Like Yesterday is about accepting that the future between two people is no longer something to hope for.”
Created with the intention to bring “a feeling of nostalgia and peace”, we are mesmerized by Jackson’s vocal timbre and the luscious soundscape of the composition, which together with his lyricism deliver a sense of catharsis.
Jackson Watson cites Michael Jackson, Harry Styles, and twenty one pilots as some of his influences, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own. Feels Like Yesterday expands with a psychedelic and astral energy with glistening detailing, and needless to say, we are obsessed. We learn that Jackson’s upcoming album, Numb, tackles themes of “hope, patience, trust, and ultimately loving oneself amidst loving someone else.”
In the meantime, we have added Feels Like Yesterday to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Jackson’s wider discography including Eye Candy and the perfectly timed (4.20) single, Blunt!
