We recently featured Canek for his powerful and provocative commentary on censorship, SEXXXsorship, so we were excited to hear that the rising star had just released the brand new, I Miss Me.
Immersing us with emotive, expansive piano chords with textures of a storm and rain, Canek opens I Miss Me with the lyrics, “I’m laying down on my floor, naked, oh, shakin’, nothing to comfort me anymore…”
Delivering an emotional performance, authentic to the nature of the opus, Canek sings his soul on I Miss Me, a juxtaposition from SEXXXsorship, but still aligned in terms of his unique style.
Speaking on the release, Canek tells us, “I Miss Me is my most powerful and vulnerable song yet. I’m trying to let go of a traumatic experience and releasing this song it’s the first step forward, I think.”
He adds with depth, “I’m screaming in pain on the song, but I’m also hearing myself roar. I missed and lost myself completely in the name of love but deep down I didn’t lose my will to live.”
We appreciate Canek‘s authenticity as he shares a more vulnerable side of his art with the world. The varying tempo of his delivery adds dimensionality to the piece, and we are mesmerized by the official lyric video, which sees out protagonist perform beautifully with wings on his back, sitting the floor. Visually, it is in line with his previous release, with blood red aesthetics.
Expanding on the creation of I Miss Me, Canek says, “This song is really simple: piano and voice. The climax of a broadway show, a plot twist in my life. You’ll hear me hitting the highest musical notes I’ve ever done and literally screaming in pain. It’s raw and honest.”
We have added I Miss Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream SEXXXsorship and await further releases from Canek!
